One of Scotland's newest distilleries, located on the Ardgowan Estate in Inverkip on the Clyde coast. Ardgowan's ambition is to produce a rich, sherried Lowland malt — unusual for a region known for light, floral styles. The distillery uses a combination of American oak and European sherry casks, and the early new-make spirit suggests a weighty, characterful whisky. The estate setting, with views across the Firth of Clyde, makes for a scenic visitor experience within easy reach of Glasgow.
Ardgowan is an Inverclyde distillery project — one of several ambitious new Lowland distilleries planning to start production. Backed by the historic Ardgowan Estate, the project has drawn attention for its commitment to renewable energy and local grain sourcing. As of 2024, the distillery is in development; early gin releases have built the brand ahead of whisky production.
