Scotland’s farmers market scene runs deepest in Edinburgh, Perth, and the Borders, where weekly and monthly markets have been trading for over two decades. The Edinburgh Farmers’ Market on Castle Terrace (every Saturday) and Stockbridge Market (every Sunday) are the largest, drawing 40–60 stallholders and a mix of arable farms, artisan bakers, cheesemakers, and seasonal game dealers.
Outside the Central Belt, Aberdeen’s Country Fair, Inverness Farmers’ Market, and a growing number of Fife markets connect rural producers directly with local buyers. Prices are typically 10–20% above supermarket equivalents, but the produce is measurably fresher — most fruit and veg travels fewer than 40 miles, and meat and dairy vendors often farm within the same council area.
