Our verdict

Oban's quayside seafood festival is small, west-coast, and properly atmospheric — boats landing directly at the festival site, oysters shucked in front of you, langoustines from local creels. Free entry, ticketed demos, and a brilliant May bank holiday weekend if the weather plays nice. Combine with the year-round Oban Seafood Hut on the pier and a cruise to Mull for a perfect West Highland weekend.

Honest take

Smaller than Crail and less polished than Edinburgh, but the seafood is genuinely off the boats — that's hard to beat. Free entry makes it an easy add to any West Highland trip. Don't drive from far for it alone; combine with a Mull or Iona day trip and it becomes one of Scotland's best food weekends.
