One of the oldest distilleries in Scotland, hidden away in the rolling Ross-shire countryside. Delicate, fruity, and famously featured in the film The Angels’ Share.
Balblair is one of Scotland's oldest distilleries, tucked into the Ross-shire hills near the Dornoch Firth, producing a delicate, fruity, elegant Highland single malt. The 12, 15, and 25 Year Old (released 2018 when they moved from vintage to age-statement bottlings) are all excellent. The distillery featured in the film The Angels' Share, which significantly raised its profile. A genuinely underrated gem.

Compare with similar distilleries
Most similar in delicacy to Glenmorangie. More fruit-forward than Old Pulteney.
Glenmorangie
Home to the tallest stills in Scotland — nearly five metres — which produces a notably light, fragrant spirit. Glenmorangie is one of the best-selling single malts in Scotland full stop.
Old Pulteney
‘The Maritime Malt’ — a coastal Highland distillery in Wick, once the herring-fishing capital of Europe. Salty, briny, lightly oily character thanks to its unusually-shaped stills.
Other distilleries owned by Inver House (Thai Beverage)
Distilleries that share Balblair's corporate parent — useful context if you're comparing house styles within an owner's stable.
Speyburn
A pretty Victorian distillery in Rothes producing fresh, easy-drinking Speyside spirit. Best known for being a regular fixture on supermarket value shelves.
Old Pulteney
‘The Maritime Malt’ — a coastal Highland distillery in Wick, once the herring-fishing capital of Europe. Salty, briny, lightly oily character thanks to its unusually-shaped stills.
