A massive Pernod Ricard workhorse on the western edge of Elgin, producing spirit primarily for the Ballantine’s blend. Rarely seen as an official single malt.
Miltonduff is a Pernod Ricard workhorse producing spirit primarily for the Ballantine's blend — rarely bottled as an official single malt. Independent bottlers who get hold of Miltonduff casks consistently find a clean, accessible Speyside fruit character. The Gordon & MacPhail releases are the ones to watch.
Core range
Single Malts of Scotland (indie)
46% ABV · Varies by indie bottler
Miltonduff produces almost entirely for Ballantine's blends. No regular official single malt bottling — indie bottlers (Signatory, Hunter Laing) release annual casks. Light, fruity Speyside style.
Character & reputation
One of the larger Speyside distilleries, Miltonduff sits west of Elgin and was founded in 1824. Now owned by Chivas Brothers (Pernod Ricard), it functions chiefly as a blending workhorse and is documented as an important malt in the Ballantine's range. Production capacity is among the biggest in the Chivas portfolio. Official single malt releases are infrequent, so most single-malt Miltonduff is encountered through independent bottlers; the distillery is also remembered for Mosstowie, a separate make once distilled here on Lomond stills. Its house style is widely described as a smooth, fruity, light Speyside spirit. It is not open to visitors.

Compare with similar distilleries
Similar accessible Speyside character to Speyburn and Glen Moray.
Glen Moray
The ruthless value champion of entry-level Speyside. Glen Moray Classic is widely available below £20 and remains a perfectly competent everyday single malt.
Speyburn
A pretty Victorian distillery in Rothes producing fresh, easy-drinking Speyside spirit. Best known for being a regular fixture on supermarket value shelves.
Other distilleries owned by Pernod Ricard
Distilleries that share Miltonduff's corporate parent — useful context if you're comparing house styles within an owner's stable.
The Glenlivet
The first legal distillery in the parish under the 1823 Excise Act, and one of the largest single malt brands in the world. Glenlivet sits at the centre of Speyside both geographically and historically.
Aberlour
A Speyside favourite for sherry-cask fans, best known internationally for the cask-strength A’bunadh series. Sweet, rich, and notably big-bodied for the region.
Strathisla
Often called the prettiest distillery in Scotland and the official home of Chivas Regal. Strathisla is one of the oldest continuously operating distilleries in the country.
Longmorn
A whisky-geek favourite often spoken of in the same breath as the great old Speysides. Most of its output goes into Chivas blends, but the 16 Year Old single malt is exceptional.
Glentauchers
An almost invisible Speyside distillery whose spirit goes mostly into Ballantine’s. A favourite of independent bottlers for its delicate, fruity character.
Scapa
Orkney's less famous distillery, sitting on the shore of Scapa Flow a few miles south of Highland Park. Produces unpeated, honeyed, coastal spirit — a stylistic counterpoint to its neighbour. Not currently open to the public.
