Pair Glen Moray with a round
The ruthless value champion of entry-level Speyside. Glen Moray Classic is widely available below £20 and remains a perfectly competent everyday single malt.
Glen Moray is the entry-level Speyside champion — the Classic is widely available below £20 and remains a solid everyday single malt. French-owned (La Martiniquaise) and unapologetically commercial, but honest about what it is. The wine cask-finished expressions (Port, Burgundy, Chardonnay) are interesting and affordable experiments. Good visitor centre in Elgin.

The Chardonnay and Burgundy finishes are interesting experiments — good for wine drinkers new to Scotch. Not complex but approachable.

Glen Moray is in Speyside. Postcode IV30.
+When was Glen Moray distillery founded?
Glen Moray was founded in 1897, making it roughly 129 years old.
Compare with similar distilleries
Most similar to Tamnavulin or Speyburn at the budget end. Less complex than Aberlour or Glenfarclas but significantly cheaper.
Glenfarclas
One of the few remaining family-owned Speyside distilleries, still in the hands of the Grant family after six generations. Famous for sherry-cask whisky at fair prices, especially the 15 and 25.
Tamnavulin
Built in the 1960s during a wave of Speyside expansion, Tamnavulin is best known today for its budget-friendly Double Cask bottling, regularly seen below £22 in supermarkets.
Aberlour
A Speyside favourite for sherry-cask fans, best known internationally for the cask-strength A’bunadh series. Sweet, rich, and notably big-bodied for the region.
Speyburn
A pretty Victorian distillery in Rothes producing fresh, easy-drinking Speyside spirit. Best known for being a regular fixture on supermarket value shelves.
