One of Diageo’s six ‘Classic Malts’. Cragganmore is unusually complex for an entry-age Speyside thanks to its short, flat-topped stills and unique condensing setup.

Our verdict

Cragganmore is one of Diageo's Classic Malts and one of Speyside's most technically interesting distilleries — the flat-topped stills and worm tub condensers (rather than shell-and-tube) produce an unusually complex, herbal spirit with a backbone most Speyside malts lack. The 12 is affordable, interesting, and underrated. Worth seeking out for drinkers who want Speyside depth without the sherry sweetness.

Diageo's Classic Malts Speyside representative. More complex than the basic Speyside profile suggests — the worm tubs give it a heavier texture than its colour implies.

Nose:
Complex — sandalwood, honey, dried herbs, faint smoke.
Palate:
Layered — light malt, oak, gentle herbal note, hint of fruit.
Finish:
Medium, drying, herbal.

More complex than standard Speyside (Glenfiddich, Glenlivet) due to worm tubs. Similar technical interest to Mortlach or Springbank in approach.

Distilleries that share Cragganmore's corporate parent — useful context if you're comparing house styles within an owner's stable.
