A modern (1974) Diageo distillery built around a single spring near Mulben. Spirit was historically released as 'The Singleton of Auchroisk' before that brand moved to other distilleries; today production mostly feeds blends. Independent bottler releases are where to find single-malt Auchroisk.

Our verdict

Auchroisk (pronounced 'Ath-rusk') was released as 'The Singleton' in the 1980s before that name migrated to Glendullan. Today the spirit feeds Johnnie Walker and other Diageo blends. The Flora & Fauna 10 Year Old shows a clean, fruity, accessible Speyside character — better than its blend-workhorse reputation suggests.

Almost entirely bottled for J&B blends. Flora & Fauna 10 is the only widely-available official release — clean, gentle Speyside.

Character & reputation

Auchroisk, near Mulben in Speyside, was built in the early 1970s by Justerini & Brooks and began production in 1974, primarily to supply malt for the J&B blend. It is now owned by Diageo. Its single malt was once sold as 'The Singleton' before the name moved elsewhere; today official bottlings are limited, the best-known being a Diageo Flora & Fauna release, and most single-malt Auchroisk reaches drinkers via independent bottlers. Among enthusiasts it is something of an overlooked, hard-to-pronounce name rather than a star malt. The make is widely documented as a light, sweet and fruity Speyside spirit. It is not a visitor destination.
