Mull's colourful harbour village — Tobermory Distillery, island cheese, and one of Scotland's most photographed seafronts
Tobermory is the main settlement on the Isle of Mull and one of Scotland's most photogenic harbour villages — the brightly painted seafront cottages have made it a landmark image of the Hebrides. Tobermory Distillery, just outside the village, produces two single malts under different names: Tobermory (unpeated) and Ledaig (heavily peated). The Mull cheese makers (Isle of Mull Cheese at Sgriob-ruadh Farm) are well-regarded — a hard, full-flavoured cheese with strong following on Scottish cheese boards. Mull's seafood is properly fresh — the island's west coast lobsters and scallops appear at most local restaurants. Café Fish on the pier and Macgochan's Pub are the standard recommendations. Mull is reached by CalMac ferry from Oban; a 45-minute crossing.
