Portree food & drink
Skye's hub — Talisker, Skye Brewing, and the island's iconic food culture
Portree is the main town on the Isle of Skye, the largest of the Inner Hebrides and one of Scotland's most-visited destinations. Talisker Distillery in Carbost on the west of the island (around 30 minutes from Portree) is one of Scotland's most-recognised single malts — Robert Louis Stevenson called it 'the king of drinks' — with its distinctive black pepper, brine, and peat smoke profile. Isle of Skye Brewing Co. in Uig at the island's north makes most of the local craft beer; their Red Cuillin and Black Cuillin are widely available across Skye pubs. The Three Chimneys at Colbost is one of Scotland's most-acclaimed rural restaurants; Loch Bay (Stein) is a Michelin-starred seafood restaurant on a quieter loch. Skye's lobster, langoustine and west coast scallops appear at almost every local restaurant. Getting there: car via the Skye Bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh, or ferry from Mallaig.
