Western Speyside — Benromach Distillery and the Findhorn coast
Forres is a small Moray town on the western edge of the Speyside whisky region. Benromach Distillery, on the edge of town, is owned and run by Gordon & MacPhail (the famous Elgin whisky merchants) and produces a slightly peated Speyside malt with strong following among enthusiasts. The Findhorn coast 15 minutes north has a strong community of small producers — Findhorn Smokehouse and several artisan food businesses operate from the Findhorn Foundation eco-village. Forres itself has a periodic farmers market and a strong network of small independent food retailers — Brodie Countryfare a few minutes east has built a reputation as one of the better farm-shop-and-deli destinations in the area.
