Pitlochry food & drink

Highland-Perthshire whisky country — Edradour, Blair Athol, and the gateway to the Cairngorms

Pitlochry is one of Scotland's most concentrated whisky towns. Edradour Distillery (officially the second-smallest in Scotland) sits 10 minutes from the high street, with one of the most enjoyable distillery visitor experiences in the country. Blair Athol Distillery is at the south end of town. Aberfeldy and Dewar's are 30 minutes south; Glenturret near Crieff is 45 minutes. The town itself is a Highland tourism hub, with strong access to the Cairngorms National Park, the River Tay for salmon fishing, and the Highland Perthshire walking routes. The farmers market is periodic rather than fixed-schedule — check listings before driving — but the town has several proper food and drink venues including the Old Mill on the high street.

The Moulin Inn

Pub

Moulin village, above Pitlochry

Brews its own beer on-site (Moulin Brewery, established 1995) and serves it on cask — Old Remedial, Ale of Atholl and Braveheart are the house beers. The setting, next to an old kirk in a Highland village, is as good as the beer.

House of Bruar

Farm shop

Blair Atholl, 10 miles north of Pitlochry

Scotland's most upmarket farm shop and food hall — exceptional Scottish cheese, charcuterie, smoked fish, baking, whisky and gin, at prices to match. A destination trip rather than a weekly shop.
