Oban food & drink

West coast seafood capital and home to a town-centre distillery

Oban is one of the few Scottish towns where a working distillery sits in the middle of the high street — Oban Distillery has been producing single malt in the same building since 1794. Beyond the distillery, Oban is the west coast's most important seafood port and the gateway to the Hebrides (ferries to Mull, Coll, Tiree, Barra, and the Outer Hebrides depart from here). The Oban Seafood Festival in early May is one of Scotland's best-regarded food festivals — built around the day's landings on the quayside. The monthly farmers market on the second Saturday is small but reliable.
